Alexander Scheer is a German actor and musician. He is considered one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He has won several national awards for his performances in film and theater. These include one German Film Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” and one Bavarian Film Award for “Best Actor”, both in 2019.
This self-taught actor was discovered at the age of 22 by Leander Haußmann and his subsequent leading role in the 1999 film SONNENALLEE, Scheer’s big screen debut, made him a household name in Germany. After being engaged by Haußmann at the Schauspielhaus Bochum theater, Scheer’s path took him via the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and the Burg Theatre in Vienna back to his hometown of Berlin. Working with director Frank Castorf beginning in 2001, Scheer became one of the leading actors at the Volksbühne Berlin, including in Castorf’s large-scale productions of Dostoevsky’s THE IDIOT, THE GAMBLER, and THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV in 2009.
